Weeks 1. 0, 1. 1, 1. Happy Friday! This is my last pregnancy update to get all caught up!_______________Week 1. Prune. Week 1. 0 Baby Developments: Though he’s barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so- called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. He’s swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they’ll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy. Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project Third Trimester Month Eight PregnancyIf you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach- fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin. In other developments: Your baby’s limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Third Trimester Pregnancy. Tracy Anderson The Pregnancy Project – I am a sucker for workout programs and this set of 9 DVDs (one for each month of pregnancy). Your baby’s forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he’s about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches. My Thoughts: Week ten hit me with a bang! I literally woke up with the worst headache (which was day two of having it) and threw up immediately eight times that morning! Welcome to week ten! I had read week 9 & 1. Good thing because week 1. I don’t know how I could manage any more weeks like week 1. Besides the intense headache that I had for four days straight, I was super nauseous and had my head hung over the toilet basically everyday. I also had a super weird appetite this week as nothing sounded good but Pasta Roni. What? I hadn’t had Pasta Roni since I was in seventh grade and used to make it at sleepovers with friends. I made Keith run out and pick me up a couple boxes. I ate it for two days and now can’t stand to think about it or even smell or eat it. Which is a good thing because they are not healthy for you with all their processed ingredients, bot to mention sky high sodium content. But sometimes in pregnancy you just don’t question certain cravings! Also, I was able to do a few good workouts this week, cardio, Tracy Anderson’s pregnancy workout and also a little prenatal yoga. I started to get some back pain and working out (even without energy) really helps!_______________Week 1. Lime. Week 1. 1 Baby Developments: Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden. She’s already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won’t feel your baby’s acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming. If you’re like most women, you’re feeling a bit more energetic now and your nausea may be starting to wane. Unfortunately, you may also be suffering from constipation (caused by hormonal changes, which can slow digestion) and heartburn (hormones again, relaxing the valve between your stomach and esophagus). Just remember, all this discomfort is for a good cause. Don’t worry if nausea has made it impossible for you to eat a wide variety of healthy foods or if you haven’t put on much weight yet (most women gain just 2 to 5 pounds during the first trimester). Your appetite will likely return soon, and you’ll start to gain about a pound a week. My Thoughts: Week 1. I could tell I was starting to get some of my energy back. I was able to clean the house, run errands and not feel like I was going to pass out, workout and cook healthy meals! A huge improvement over prior weeks! In fact, I hadn’t felt this good since week five! I even started feeling the baby move this week. Just really tiny flutter that felt like someone was tickling my stomach from the inside! I would notice this while rocking Cameryn to sleep or in the middle of the night when I was trying to get her back to sleep. I also finally got my hair colored this week! Yay! I was waiting until the first ten weeks were over since they are the most critical! _______________Week 1. Plum. Week 1. 2 Baby Developments: The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby- to- be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce. Your uterus has grown to the point where your healthcare provider can now feel the top of it (the fundus) low in your abdomen, just above your pubic bone. You may already be into maternity clothes, especially if this isn’t your first pregnancy. If you’re still fairly small and not yet ready for maternity clothes, you’ve no doubt noticed that your waist is thickening and that you’re more comfortable in loose, less restrictive clothing. You may begin to feel heartburn (also called acid indigestion), a burning sensation that often extends from the bottom of your breastbone to your lower throat. Many women get heartburn for the first time during pregnancy, and those who’ve previously had bouts of heartburn may find that it gets worse. During pregnancy, the placenta produces a lot of the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach. Particularly when you’re lying down, gastric acid can seep back up the pipe, which causes the uncomfortable burning sensation. For many women the problem doesn’t begin (or get worse) until later in pregnancy, when your growing uterus starts to push up on your stomach. The discomfort may range from mildly annoying to intense and distracting. My Thoughts: Week 1. Belly Bump Photos (I keep forgetting to take photos, but do have some from week 1. There is a tiny bump, but I think it is mostly bloat. I forgot to mention how bloated I’ve been this pregnancy compared to the last! Holy moly!_______________Week 1. Peach. Week 1. 3 Baby Developments: Fingerprints have formed on your baby’s tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still- thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you’re having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (about the size of a pea pod) and weighs nearly an ounce. This is the last week of your first trimester, and your risk of miscarriage is now much lower than earlier in pregnancy. Next week marks the beginning of your second trimester, a time of relative comfort for many women who see early pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue subside. More good news: Many couples also notice a distinct libido lift around this time. Birth is still months away, but your breasts may have already started making colostrum, the nutrient- rich fluid that feeds your baby for the first few days after birth, before your milk starts to flow. My Thoughts: Week 1. Yes, I’m still suffering from headaches (bad ones) and still throwing up. I must say I’ve had some of my worst morning sickness bouts later in the first trimester. With Cameryn I was done throwing up at around nine weeks, so this is really starting to get annoying! I slowly started trying to workout again. And let me reiterate I slowly tried. My workouts were slow and were anywhere from 3. Starting working out again is tricky, because if you go with guns blazing you might use up all your energy for the day and that is a no no, especially with a toddler to chase after. I started doing 3. DVD (just the 1. 5 minute practice) and was doing some of the Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project workouts. This is a new program to me and so far I really like it! It is a lot of repetitive movements, but my booty was sore the following day so I’ll take it! Here is a link to the DVD if anyone is interested. I saw it online with the price ranging from $1. I went with Barnes and Noble online and it arrived within a week. It has gone up in price, but it is still cheap and totally worth it at only $2. It has nine workouts for each month of pregnancy. Awesome!_______________Well that pretty much sums up the rest of the first trimester. I think this go around it was much worse than with Cameryn and I didn’t think that was possible. I lost about 3- 4lbs the first trimester and don’t think it will take long to regain the weight. Here’s to feeling better during the second trimester, reintroducing myself to leafy green vegetables and getting my move on again! See you in week 1.
